Frank Harris
An elderly lady collapsed whilst painting a lamp post
And was taken to hospital suffering from heat exhaustion
I offered to finish painting the lamp post chocolate brown
And was given a large leather glove not suited to the task
On a paddle steamer off of the coast of Vietnam
An American journalist heard about this incident on the radio
The poet and artist Frank Harris is reported to have painted a lamp post
chocolate brown after the original worker collapsed in the Liverpool heat
She immediately rang my friend Ralph who was drunk and received an jumbled answer
Fifteen days later Gertrude arrived in Gravesend and caught a train to Liverpool
She found me painting a poem near the river just after the cops showed up
I thought she was going to pay my fine but instead present me with a recording
Of the radio programme and a bunch of flowers for the elderly lady who had since died
